Reducing administrative barriers and facilitating a smooth academic and social transition for transfer students.
At STEM Transitions, our goal is to create onboarding training for assisting STEM students to transition successfully to VCU.
Our plan of action:
- Develop “Major Maps” and “Guided Pathways” that provide clear plans of study for transfer students.
- Create new STEM-specific processes for onboarding transfer students that include workshop series focusing on academic success skills, cohort-building, targeted tracking, and proactive advising in the 1st year at VCU.
- Make administrative changes that support successful transition by reducing administrative barriers and proving clear plans of study, resulting in reduced time to earning a bachelor’s degree and increased academic self-efficacy for transfer students, which in turn increases degree attainment.
